While the question of pursuing a lawsuit for my father’s wrongful death was being debated by my family, I was vehemently opposed. Not because I believed there was no wrong doing; I strongly felt there was. I was opposed because I knew my father’s life would be demeaned, that a long trial would be emotionally draining, and I cynically felt that a blue collar family like mine could never receive true justice.
Once I was outvoted, I fully supported my family’s decision. We knew from the onset it was a long shot. We also believed that any award we might receive would be minimal and barely cover expenses. We truly did this out of principle and never for money. That is why I was so strongly opposed to taking a settlement. Win, lose or draw, I believe we needed to see this through.
You are the one who took a real gamble on my family. It was you who put in all the hard work, study, research, time and effort knowing you were probably working for nothing. And yet, you prosecuted this case as if we had paid you millions. There was a guardian angel watching over my family the day you agreed to represent us.
You spoke eloquently about my father and resurrected him as a man of great value in all ways other than financial. You painted a picture of a very special and honorable man and now there is a legal, public record of his character and the legacy he left behind. That is more than we could have hoped for, and we really need from this litigation; winning the appeal will just be icing on the cake.
I am sure you have had and will continue to have many cases much more prestigious than ours, but I can guarantee you this; you will never have a more appreciative or thankful client than us. You have given us a great gift, something we will cherish forever and tell to your children and their children, and their children’s children. There is no way to thank you for that. God Bless.

It was extremely difficult to find a lawyer that was willing to take on this lawsuit and my family was abundantly blessed when attorney Christopher Meagher, of Meagher & Meagher (pronounced Marr) agreed to take our case.
